从07年开始，英语考纲就明确了“词汇知识运用”考点：即只考查词汇知识，此题不考查语法知识。

现在我们来分析近2年得分较低题目的词汇考察特点：
08年23题中的observe 除了表达“观察，观测”之外，还有“遵守，奉行（法律，习俗等）， 庆祝（节日）等”含义。而此用法曾出现在高二教材第一单元的练习里。

而28题中，考生对primary表达“首要，主要的”含义不熟悉，此用法在高三教材的第四单元中出现过（“ The primary goal was to study the passing of the planet Venus across the sun.” ）。
09年试题中的24题，学生只知道shelter一般作名词“避难所”， 学生对它动
词的意义不熟悉；27题alternative在建材中常以名词出现，意义为“可能性选择”，学生对它的形容词“其他（可选）的”意义不熟悉。
笔者通过分析07—09年湖北高考“词汇知识运用”试题，发现主要考点如下表：

07---09年“词汇知识运用”中测试单词全部为词汇表中所列，所有词组均为中学英语中常用词组，也是学生在中学阶段所必须重点掌握的词组。
通过以上分析，我们可以发现湖北高考“词汇知识运用”这一部分试题近几年有以下特点：
1. “词汇知识运用”主要考点分布在以下词类： 名词、动词、动词短语、形容词、副词和介词短语。
2. 喜欢选择学生熟悉的词，但考察它新的词义，新的词义又是在课文中出现的，要求学生掌握的。
3. 喜欢考察同一词不同词性的意义。比如shelter既可作名词又可作动词。
4. 词汇放在语境中考察。
后阶段在词汇复习中的建议：
1. 同学们在复习中要重点留意实词，尤其是名词、形容词、副词、动词、动词短语及介词短语。
2. 对一些常见的动词短语进行有意的归纳和收集。
3. 对教材中熟悉词汇新意义要高度留意。
4. 对一词的不同词性要重视。
5. 尽量把词汇融入语境中运用。
